"The Significance of the Insignificant": A Poem

A butterfly comes and seeks
The blades of grass we take for granted beneath
Our shoes as we walk, so entombed in our own world
That we don’t notice the one below our feet
But the butterfly won’t find the grass
For the grass has been destroyed at mass
By the giants that roam the Earth
Who don’t see and simply pass
The butterfly searches, but won’t find
The blade of grass in her mind
She stops and studies the world around her
And realizes it is not so kind
These giants with their big machines
Destroy the little lives in between
The big lives they live, for why should they care
About those they cannot see?
The butterfly has no home
She has no place to call her own
She flies away in search of a new world
In which those in it see the world, not just their phone
