Jaehyun’s POV

What is her problem? I think to myself when I walk past her into the house. More like a mansion compared to Robert and Kareema’s residence. Guess I was wrong about her. She doesn’t have my best interests at heart.

When I enter the home, my jaw almost drops at how immaculate and pristine everything is. And then I see her. Brynn’s mother. My mother. Her eyes widen and her eyebrows shoot up at the sight of me. Brynn’s father, my father, is walking down the stairs when he suddenly stops. I know he sees me but pretends he doesn’t, going back up.

“What are you doing here?” Brynn’s mother breathes, looking at me like she saw a ghost.

“Brynn told me about you. I’m your son, Jaehyun.”

“Brynn? Brynndal, show your friend out.”

“Of course, Mother.”

“Wait! No!” I say, frantically trying to hold the woman’s attention. “Stop! Please! I just want to talk.”

“Nothing to talk about.” She replies. “Get out of my house.”

I don’t feel Brynn carefully pull me toward the door. I don’t even feel her pull me into a hug. But when she releases me, I feel every single emotion imaginable, from comfort to sadness to pure hatred. Hatred for my parents for giving me up fifteen years ago. Hatred for my mother for forcing me out of her home. Hatred for the world, for putting me through this mess. Hatred for Brynn, for making me open that stupid envelope in the first place. I don’t mean to yell at her, but it happens. I thought she was my friend. I thought she was my sister. My twin. She yells back at me. Can’t say I blame her. At one point, I get on my bike. I keep riding, even as I hear her screaming at me from the front porch. I don’t look back.
